1st Radyr Cubs (Thursday) spent an enjoyable weekend at Miskin Mill Scout Village. On the morning of day one the Cubs hiked through the countryside to collect sticks for making rafts. After returning to base and gobbling down a hearty lunch they began to build their rafts, explore the campsite and play the thrilling game "Capture the Flag". After dinner the Mill was transformed into a cinema and the Cubs watched the film 'RV'; we think everyone managed to stay awake to the end. Sunday was raft-race-day. Akela, Zazu and Kaa gingerly lowered the rafts into the stream and cast them off. It was a tense moment. Would they float? Luckily Chief Raft Building Mang had supervised all construction efforts and each vessel was able to float proudly down the stream. It was an exhausting morning for the Cubs as each raft was chased and cheered until it sailed out of sight. Finally, everyone gathered in the Mill to look at the photographs Mang's special camera had taken. This camera takes infra-red photographs which means it can see in the dark. After dinner on Saturday night, Mang took a small group Cubs to hide the camera in the forest. They then laid out bait in the hope of photographing some interesting wildlife. We were in luck! The tasty strips of bacon left over from breakfast attracted a hungry fox. We think it might have been Fantastic Mr Fox himself... Many thanks to the Cubs for their excellent behaviour and to the leaders, young leaders and helpers who made the camp possible. More photographs will be available soon.
